What is craniosacral therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that focuses on the subtle rhythms of the head, spine, and pelvis. The idea is that by supporting these areas, the body can release tension and restore balance naturally. For babies, this therapy can be especially soothing because it’s so gentle and non-invasive.
Many parents have found craniosacral therapy helpful for babies dealing with reflux. As you probably know all too well, reflux can make feeding uncomfortable and disrupt sleep, and sometimes it’s linked to tension in the baby’s neck, jaw, or digestive system. A craniosacral therapist works softly with these areas, which can help the baby’s body relax, support digestion, and reduce discomfort. While it’s not a cure-all, it can be a comforting complement to other care strategies and give your little one a better chance to settle more easily after feeds.
Our experience
We wish we found our craniosacral therapist sooner. He worked magic on our daughter from the very first session and for the 5 months before seeing him we felt like we had exhausted every other thing from diet, feeding positions and frequency, bottle feeding vs breastfeeding, burping techniques as well as frequency (during and after feeding). I spoke with 2 breastfeeding specialists and took her to a chiropractor and nothing worked until she saw a craniosacral therapist.
If you google it you might think, what a load of alternative medicine garbage. And I was sceptical, but when I had nothing to lose, I went for it, and we are so glad we did. The change was subtle but undeniable: she seemed calmer, more comfortable after feeds, and her reflux episodes became far less frequent. After the third session, she was almost completely cured. Of course, every baby is different, and we did take her for a fourth session just to be sure, but by that point, she really didn’t need it. The relief and comfort we saw after those few sessions made such a difference for all of us.
Seeing her finally comfortable and happy after months of struggle was such a relief. It reminded me that sometimes the gentlest approaches can make the biggest difference. If your little one is struggling with reflux, craniosacral therapy might be worth exploring, you never know, it could be the missing piece that finally brings peace to both baby and parents.
What’s the difference between Osteopathy and Craniosacral Therapy?
Osteopathy is broader and focuses on the body’s structure and movement, while craniosacral therapy is subtler and focuses on tension and fluid rhythms, especially in the head, spine, and nervous system. Both aim to support the baby’s comfort and natural function, but they use different techniques and philosophies.
